Mastering: the one-click mastering studio

Upload a finished song, hear it mastered beside the original, choose Intensity and an EQ option, then master the whole song and download it as a WAV or an MP3.

Mastering is the last step before a song is released: the finished mix comes back clearer, balanced and at a loudness that holds its own next to the other songs on a playlist. Mastering, the one-click mastering studio, does it in your browser. You hear your song mastered before you commit to it, choose how far the master goes and how bright or warm it sounds, then master the whole song and download it.

How it works

  1. Open Mastering and press Choose a song: pick one From library, or Upload an MP3 or WAV of 30 seconds to 15 minutes, up to 200 MB. Dropping the file on the console works too
  2. Wait while Your mastering preview gets the song ready, with the page open. The console then opens on MASTERED
  3. Press Play to hear a 20-second preview of your song, mastered
  4. Set INTENSITY and EQ OPTIONS. With MASTERED on, each change is heard at once, without stopping the song
  5. Flip ORIGINAL / MASTERED in the top bar to compare, with MATCH LEVEL on to hear both at the same loudness
  6. Press MASTER IT and pick a file in Choose your file. The whole song is mastered, downloads by itself and is saved in your library under Mastered songs

What can you change?

ControlWhat it does
INTENSITYHow far the master goes, from HIGH, the loudest and boldest, to LOW, the lightest touch. The console starts on MEDIUM, between the two
EQ OPTIONSThe tone of the master, from BRIGHTER to WARMER. BRIGHT and BRIGHTER make the top end crisper; WARM and WARMER soften it for a rounder sound. The console starts on NEUTRAL, in the middle

How do I compare it with the original?

With ORIGINAL / MASTERED at the top of the console. It switches sides at the same moment in the song, so flip it while the song plays; ORIGINAL is your song exactly as you uploaded it. Louder nearly always sounds better at first, so turn on MATCH LEVEL, under A / B COMPARE, to hear both sides at the same loudness and judge the master itself. MATCH LEVEL is for listening only and never changes your file.

The preview is a 20-second part of the song, and the song view shows where it sits, beside PREVIEW. Play, Loop and the 10-second skips stay inside it. The waveform and the FREQUENCY BALANCE chart draw both sides, the one you are hearing bright and the other faint behind it, so you can see what the master changed. MASTER IT always masters the whole song.

Can I hear it before I choose a plan?

Yes. Without a plan you can hear up to 3 different songs mastered, at every setting, as often as you like: opening one of them again does not count twice. A song after those still opens and plays as you uploaded it, and the plans open in place of its master. MASTER IT, which masters the whole song so you can download it, is part of the Creator plan; without one, it opens the plans.

Create your account from Mastering with an email and a password and you are in at once: your first song previews straight away. Until you open the link in the email we sent, a Confirm your email line with Send it again sits under the song card, and picking another song opens Confirm your email to master another song. Open the link, and that song starts on its own. You can also begin on the Mastering page: drop a song there, create your account or log in, and it opens on the console. Nothing uploads until you are in.

What files do I get?

FileWhat it is for
WAV 24-bit, 48 kHzStudio quality. Best for distributors and video
WAV 16-bit, 44.1 kHzCD quality. For older players and CD
MP3, 320 kbpsSmall file. For sharing and demos
You choose one in Choose your file each time you press MASTER IT, and every one is the whole song.

The file downloads by itself as soon as the master is made, and Download saves it again. It is kept in your library under Mastered songs too, for a limited time and with a countdown, as rendered videos are, so download anything you want to keep. To make a video of it, Use in a video opens a new project in a video studio, such as the Music Visualizer, Compose or Karaoke, where the master is waiting in your library to be picked as the song.
