Troubleshooting
What to do when a render fails, an upload will not go through, the preview stutters or a finished video does not look the way you expected.
A render failed
My render failed. What now?
Start it again first, because most failures are transient. If the same project fails twice, remove the most recently added element and try once more; that identifies the cause faster than anything else.
My render is stuck at a percentage
Leave it a few minutes before assuming it is stuck, because the last stretch of a render includes writing and checking the file, which shows no progress. If it has genuinely not moved for a long time, cancel and start it again.
Uploads
My audio will not upload
Check the format: MP3, WAV, M4A, AAC and OGG are supported, and FLAC is not. Convert a FLAC to WAV and it will go through.
My logo has a white box around it
It is a JPEG. JPEG cannot hold transparency. Export the logo as a PNG and the box disappears.
My GIF is not animating
A render uses the first frame of a GIF only. For moving background footage, upload a video instead.
The preview
The preview stutters while I work
The preview draws on your machine, unlike the render, so a busy scene on a modest laptop can drop frames while you edit. It does not affect the finished file, which is drawn on our machines at full frame rate.
The preview looks out of time with the music
Check whether you are listening on Bluetooth headphones. Bluetooth adds a delay of its own between what you see and what you hear, and it is by far the most common cause. Wired headphones or speakers will confirm it in seconds.
The finished video
YouTube shows my video at a lower quality than I uploaded
Open Stats for nerds on the video and check the frame rate first. If it says 30, the file was re-encoded somewhere along the way. Also give YouTube time: the higher resolutions appear some minutes after the first processing pass finishes.
My Spotify Canvas will not upload
Almost always the length or the shape. It has to be 3 to 8 seconds and a true 9:16. See Spotify Canvas size.
My Apple motion artwork was rejected
Check the frame rate. Apple does not accept 60 fps, and 60 is the default export of most tools. See motion artwork specs.
Still stuck?
Get in touch through the contact page with the project name and what you were doing. That is usually enough for us to find the render and see what happened.
