A Spotify Canvas is the short looping visual that plays behind a track in the Spotify mobile app. Canvas, our studio for Spotify Canvas, builds one, and it is a loop editor rather than a video editor: everything you place is designed to come back to where it started.
What you can put in a loop
- Your cover art, as the subject or as a backdrop
- Motion, effects, filters and shader cards you stack in any order
- Text animations
- GIFs and stock video from the built-in libraries, or your own uploads
- Photos with the background removed
Why does it loop perfectly?
Because the motion is cyclic by construction rather than trimmed to look seamless. Every animation completes a whole number of cycles within the loop, so the last frame flows into the first with no jump. You never have to hunt for a cut point.
Does it use the music?
No, and that is deliberate. A Canvas plays under the track in Spotify's own player, and Spotify does not hand the visual any audio to react to. A loop that pretends to react would drift out of time immediately. Motion here is time-based, which is why it stays right for the whole track.
Can I reuse the same loop on Apple Music?
